When Humans Can Live Forever, Will People Still Follow Jesus?
"The last enemy to be destroyed is death."
Will people still follow Jesus if technological immortality is achieved? Efforts to extend human life and achieve immortality are increasing, with scientists and entrepreneurs investing in various technologies and initiatives.
Aubrey de Grey's research focuses on repairing aging-related damage, while Peter Thiel has invested in companies aiming for radical life extension. Dmitry Itskov's 2045 Initiative aims to transfer human consciousness into artificial carriers by 2045. Elon Musk's Neuralink could bridge human-machine integration for digital immortality.
Other projects include Kernel’s brain-computer interface technologies, Nectome's brain preservation for future revival, and the Alcor Life Extension Foundation's cryonics.
Despite these advancements, the question remains: will people still follow Jesus?
Author Christopher Benek suggests that technological immortality alone does not address the need for a moral and ethical framework that can improve humanity and the world.
Jesus offers a different technological hermeneutic and teachings on caring for and stewarding the world. Technologists can contribute to redeeming and improving the world when guided by Jesus’ ethics. Therefore, the need for Jesus may be even stronger if technological immortality is achieved.
